By Isiaka Mustapha, Abuja

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali
Ibrahim Pantami, has raised concerns over his safety and that of his supporters, alleging intimidation and harassment by unnamed government officials during his ongoing political engagements across Gombe State.

Pantami made the allegations in a statement issued on Tuesday
following his visit to Shongom, Kaltungo, and Billiri Local Government
Areas on Monday, where he met with party leaders and supporters as
part of what he described as a thank-you tour.

The former minister said the visit attracted significant support and
enthusiasm from residents, noting that the reception he received
across the three local government areas demonstrated the growing
acceptance of his political movement.

According to him, the success of the tour has unsettled certain individuals whom he accused of seeking information about his movements with the intention of frustrating his activities.

He alleged that some political actors were making efforts to obtain details of his itinerary and were plotting actions aimed at disrupting his engagements and intimidating those associated with him.

Pantami maintained that his travels and consultations were lawful and in line with his constitutional rights as a Nigerian citizen.

He stressed that every citizen is entitled to move freely across the country and participate in legitimate political activities without fear of harassment or intimidation.

He also disclosed that the next phase of his tour would cover Akko, Balanga, and Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Areas, adding that he remained committed to engaging with supporters and stakeholders across the state.

The former minister further accused unnamed authorities of using
government institutions to intimidate individuals perceived to be loyal to him.

According to him, some of his supporters have allegedly been subjected to threats and undue pressure because of their
political affiliations.

He described such actions as a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of association, arguing that citizens should be free to support political movements and leaders of their choice without facing intimidation or victimisation.

Pantami also alleged attempts to suppress discussions surrounding
payments reportedly made to some Hausa musicians.

He claimed that certain individuals had been instructed not to circulate information relating to the matter, despite reports that some participants had already disclosed details publicly.

Calling on his supporters to remain steadfast, Pantami urged members
of his political movement not to be discouraged by what he described
as attempts to undermine their activities. He expressed confidence that truth and justice would ultimately prevail.

He also appealed to security agencies and relevant government institutions to investigate the alleged threats and ensure that political activities in the state are conducted peacefully and in
accordance with the law.

To encourage his supporters, Pantami cited verses from both the Holy
Quran and the Bible, urging them to remain hopeful, courageous, and
committed to their beliefs despite challenges.

The former minister cautioned against actions aimed at discrediting political opponents, warning that efforts to undermine the popularity or influence of others could have unintended consequences and further deepen political divisions.

Pantami, who served as Minister of Communications and Digital Economy
under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has remained an active figure
in national and state politics since leaving office.

His recent consultations and grassroots engagements across Gombe State have
continued to fuel discussions about his possible political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
