The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has swept all the 27 local government council seats in an election described by Governor Babagana Zulum as a litmus test for the 2027 general elections.

Governor Zulum had, last Saturday, December 13, after casting his vote at his Ajari Ward at his home town, Mafa, Mafa LGA, described the local council poll as such, assuring that APC would win all seats from the Presidency down to the State Assembly in 2027.

The mainstream opposition, PDP, boycotted the LGC poll, on the grounds of what its officials foresaw as absence of justice and fairness in the process.

However, five other opposition parties – NNPP, BOOT, LP, PRP and SDP participated.

“We have never shortchanged any party, we never constituted any stumbling block to any party throughout the process,” Dr. Tahir Shettima, Chairman of Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), stated while declaring the final results of the exercise, Monday, December 15 in Maiduguri.

Dr. Shettima described the local council poll as peaceful, violence and rancour-free, urging the winners to be magnanimous in victory, while the losers should try again next time, saying, “tomorrow is another day.”

The chairman thanked the state government for providing the commission with the resources it required to conduct what he described as a credible poll; and the participating political parties for their cooperation in the conduct of the process.

He also thanked all security agencies in the state for ensuring peace and security throughout the election. ENDS
