The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to support the reform agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

The Minister made the call while receiving a delegation of the ICAN, led by the President, Malam Malam Haruna Nma Yahaya, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Radio House, Abuja, on Friday.

“The promotion of accurate information, public orientation, and responsible governance is central to the inherent values of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It is in this regard that we call on ICAN to support the ongoing reforms of this administration, and in light of the new tax policy that will commence from January 2026, we urge that you champion the cause in your financial and professional sphere,” said the Minister.

He stated that President Tinubu’s reform agenda is anchored on responsible leadership, fiscal discipline, economic transformation, digitisation of government processes, and a transparent interface with citizens.

“Reforms must not only work, but citizens must also clearly understand them. This is why collaboration with reputable professional bodies like ICAN is essential. We welcome your expertise as partners in public communication, public financial management, and civic orientation. Together, we will build transparency, restore public trust, and strengthen national institutions,” Idris said.

According to a statement on Friday December 5 by Rabiu Ibrahim, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, the Minister offered ICAN access to the Federal Government’s public information platforms, including state-owned media organisations and national orientation channels, to support financial literacy, ethical leadership campaigns, and public enlightenment on economic reforms.

He further proposed collaboration on research-based policy communication, capacity building for civil servants, and public education that demystifies technical economic issues for everyday Nigerians.

He commended ICAN for its longstanding role in upholding ethical standards and promoting best practices in both the public and private sectors, adding that such professionalism is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s reform agenda.

ICAN President, Malam Yahaya, commended the Ministry for its role in promoting national cohesion and transparency, noting that building trust in government is critical to the success of economic reforms.

He said the Ministry has “restored urgency to public engagement and strengthened clarity in government communication,” while praising the Media and Information Literacy Institute designation, digital public service reforms, and the revitalised national communication strategy under the Minister’s leadership.

He added that ICAN is fully committed to using its platforms, including its nationwide ICAN on the Air programme, to translate government reforms into simplified, citizen-friendly messages, expand financial literacy, and support ethical governance.

The Minister assured the Institute that the Federal Government remains committed to fostering constructive partnerships with professional bodies to deliver reforms that are transparent, people-centred, and accountable.
