The Rivers State Police Command said it has arrested one of the suspects accused of raping and killing a young woman whose name was simply given as Ugochi in her home in Oyigbo, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The deceased was strangled to death after she was raped by 2 man gang rapists who sneaked into her apartment through the help of her landlords daughter.
The deceased was said to have been held on her two legs by her landlords daughter while the rapists took turn to have carnal knowledge of her.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said operatives of the Oyigbo Division captured the suspect with help from a woman who assisted in tracking him down.
She said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe and assures that the outcome will be made public.
“The incident gained attention after the lifeless body of the young woman, said to be an orphan, was found in her room, a discovery that sparked outrage online when a user on X, who identified as a family friend, called for swift police action,” Iringe-Koko pointed out in the statement.
