From Edirin Robinson, in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Hope for Communities and Children (H4CC) Initiative, has organized a two-day training program for educators focused on adolescent health and well-being.

The training involved teachers, head teachers, guidance counselors, and Social Mobilization Officers (SMOs), intending to equip participants with essential life skills such as communication, assertiveness, refusal strategies, negotiation, goal-setting, and self-esteem.

Hadiza Umar, the Executive Director of H4CC, said that the training was a vital investment in the health and safety of young learners.

She said that the programme aims to empower adolescents with the necessary skills to navigate critical issues such as misinformation, gender-based violence (GBV), and negative peer influence.

Umar noted that many adolescents are unaware or misinformed about how to tackle challenges, particularly related to their body health.

The training sessions included participants from Kaduna South, Kaduna North, Igabi, and Chikun Local Government Areas (LGAs), totaling 400 attendees.

Hadiza Umar revealed that the goal is to train 1,300 basic school teachers across various LGAs, including Soba and Jaba.

Hassan Dantawaye, Head of Social Mobilization from Chikun LGA, remarked on the high level of engagement from the participants, noting their eagerness and enthusiasm to learn.

Ibrahim Zakari, the FLHE Desk Officer for the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, stressed the importance of a close relationship between educators and the health and well-being of their students.
