The National Council of State (NCS) meeting is currently underway at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja with President Bola Tinubu presiding.
Notice of the hybrid meeting was announced on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.
According to the notice, Council members have the option to participate in the meeting physically or virtually.
Today’s NCS meeting is the second to be convened by President Tinubu since his inauguration in 2023.
The NCS, comprising ex-Presidents, ex-Heads of State, governors, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice of the Nigeria among others, is the highest advisory body to the Nigerian president.
As at the time the meeting commenced, none of the ex-Presidensts and ex-Heads of State were physically present, suggesting that they may have joined the discussions virtually.
Though details of the agenda of the meeting was not made public, it has been suggested that the appointment of a substantive Chairman of the Independece Electoral Commission (INEC) would top the discussions, following the exit of Professor Mahood Yakubu.
Besides, national security issues are also said to have been listed for discussion.00
