Police in Nasarawa arrest gunrunners, recover firearms, stolen vehicle

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested nine suspects over alleged possession of prohibited firearms and stolen vehicle.

State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed Jauro made this known during a press briefing in Lafia.
The State Police Commissioner said that the suspects were arrested as a result of intelligence gathered by the command.
“On 7th September 2025 at about 8:30pm, based on credible intelligence that suspected gun runners alleged to be from Benue state were sighted in a forest bordering Keana LGA offloading arms and ammunition for onward distribution to their criminal partners.”
The CP said he personally led a team of operatives to the location.
He said the suspects abandoned their items and fled to the forest after sighting the operatives.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspects abandoned their luggage and fled deep into the forest”.
According to the CP Jauro, a search on the scene led to the recovery of four AK49, three AK47, one G3 ruffle and  one Sub-Machine Gun (SMG)
Other recoveries by the command include: 11 magazines, 4,046 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 11 rounds of 5.5mm ammunition, 132 rounds 38mm ammunition and 75 cartridges.
CP Jauro also said a diligent search by the command resulted in the arrest of one John Paul with five locally-made rifles in his position.
“Similarly, on 16th September 2025 at about 5pm, operatives acting on actionable intelligence arrested one John Paul of FCT Abuja along Akwanga-Wamba Motor Park en route to Abuja. A diligent search was conducted, during which five locally-fabricated rifles were recovered in possession.”
Also arrested by the command were gun manufacturers and distributors in Lafia as well as interception of a black Peugeot 508 being driving by 23 years old Iliya Adamu with two other occupants who were impersonating as army officers.
The CP said the suspects were arrested in possession of one military jungle hat, two military polo shirts and one black shirt with Nigerian Army and Special Force inscription.
The CP who commended the gallantry of officers and men of the command for their tireless efforts also appreciate the continued support of public who provide timely and credible information that aids security operations.
