From Abubakar Abdullahi, in Lafia
Concerned stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have rejected claims of a consensus candidate being adopted ahead of the forthcoming primaries.
The stakeholders, comprising elders, youths, and grassroots mobilizers, held a press conference in Lafia to address the issue.
The stakeholders who spoke through Jibrin Idris Ibrahim, said a group claiming to speak on behalf of the PDP met at residence of the party north central Zonal Secretary Francis Orogu and purportedly adopted a particular aspirant as the party’s consensus candidate.
However, the stakeholders described this move as “false, undemocratic, and does not reflect the will of the majority of party members across the State.”
The stakeholders called on the State Working Committee (SWC) to disregard the purported adoption and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants.
They also urged the SWC to sanction party officials, including Francis Orogu, who are promoting certain aspirants to the detriment of others.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to democratic processes and urged aspirants to continue engaging with party members while preparing for the primary election.
They also called on supporters to remain calm and resolute, assuring that the PDP in Nasarawa State belongs to all members, not just a privileged few.
They also called on public to disregard the purported adoption of a consensus candidate.
The stakeholders expressed their commitment to ensuring a credible and popularly accepted candidate emerges through democratic processes.
Effort to get reaction from the party Zonal Secretary Francis Orogu proved abortive as call and text message to him were not responded
